Hired at KJRH
Brian is a hybrid anchor/reporter that has carved out his niche in the newsroom. He first came to KXAN in Austin as the weekend sports anchor in 2006, but has since expanded his role and regularly fills-in as a morning and evening news anchor. He’s also constantly searching for “crossover” stories, which are sports-related with a newsy spin.
About the only thing he can’t do in the newsroom is predict the weather, but give him time and he’ll figure it out. Brian graduated from the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University. A series of events then led him into broadcast journalism.
First was 9/11. Brian was working for a semiconductor distributor in Dallas on that fateful day, when he decided to change careers without regret. Being social and outgoing by nature, he always had an interest in television but needed a starting point.
So, he was hired to sell advertising for WFAA-TV in Dallas. Through his relationships at the station and his affinity for sports, he was able to work an internship with the WFAA sports department on the side. That invaluable experience then led to his first on-air job as the sports director at KSAN-TV in San Angelo, Texas.
Brian spent two years in West Texas as a one-man-band department chasing the real life “Friday Night Lights” and learning all aspects of his new craft before jumping to Austin.
He’s been recognized in both Austin and Dallas as a popular face in the community and loves being on the front lines of breaking news, whether it’s conference realignment, containing wildfires, or anything between.
